Our tribute to Mississippi Gulf Coast Craft Beer Breweries, including Crooked Letter Brewing Company, Lazy Magnolia Brewery, and others.

There's nothing quite like the Gulf Coast. This goes for the breweries of the Gulf Coast as well, as coastal Mississippi really is the best kept secret in the United States. The brewpubs and taprooms deserve not only credit for producing excellent food & drink, but also credit for making some great beer.

And this makes sense. The Gulf Coast needs great beer to match it's laid back attitude and unique way of life. And with several breweries near or just off the shore, it's not hard to get your growlers filled. Often.

Here is a quick run down of Gulf Coast Mississippi Breweries and Taprooms:

Chandeleur Island Brewing Company

2711 14th Street, Gulfport, MS 39501

One of the most curious things in the world is Chandeleur's Tuesday Teacher Night. I know zero teachers who are interested in kicking back a few cold ones on Tuesday. Ok, rewind. I know zero teachers who follow through with their interest of imbibing a half dozen craft beers on ol' Tuesday. It must work for Chandeleur though. Brewery tours on Friday and Saturday - will have to catch one next time I am in town.

To note, sour beers are a focal point of the Chandeleur Island Brewing process.

Biloxi Brewing Company

186 Bohn Street, Biloxi, MS 39530

Now closed, the Biloxi Brewing Company was an amazingly reasonable place to get a beer. The $10 tour would net you a half dozen samples.

Craft Advisory Brewing

1314 Government Street, Ocean Springs, MS

A brewpub on Government St, not far from the Crooked Letter Brewing Company's Government Street locale. Craft Advisory took over Chef Scott's in downtown Ocean Springs.

They are serving a mix of in-house brewed beers along with pints from other craft breweries around the state, including Lazy Magnolia.

Crooked Letter Brewing Company

503 Porter Avenue, Ocean Springs, MS 39564

Crooked Letter's Paul Blacksmith moved from the old location on Government St. to the new location on Porter Ave back in 2018. Food and full bar separates the old digs from the new, offering brewpub patrons more robust choices. This includes apps like egg rolls, fried pickles, and avocado slices, along with brats, and, a wild burger that's part ground beer and part sausage named The Beast. Appropriate.

The Mariposa Pale Ale was brewed with Cilantro, JalapeƱo, and Mango. The Crooked Heffy is a German Hefeweizen that pours yellow with a white foamy head, with hints of banana and clove. With tones of nutmeg and allspice, and a layered-in caramel flavor, the Age Old Pumpkin Stout is sturdy, but not overpowering, as the imperial stout checks in at 8% abv. A European pale lager, the Stabello is fairly easy drinking - something to enjoy after a day's work.

Fort Bayou Brewing Company

6616 Rose Farm Road, Ocean Springs, MS 39564

The Cypress Taphouse is home to the Fort Bayou Brewing Company. There is plenty to fill up on, with dinner entrees, salads, charcuterie boards, dips, apps, and build your own burgers - and we all know that nothing washes a burger down quite like a cold glass of beer, especially house-brewed beer. With Thursday night beer bingo and live music on the weekends, the Cypress Taphouse / Fort Bayou Brewing Company is a great destination if you find yourself in Ocean Spings.

They also feature guest taps, with a range of beers from breweries in not only Mississippi, but also Alabama, Florida, and Louisiana.

Lazy Magnolia Brewery

A fantastic taproom in Kiln that offers brewery tours. One of Mississippi's oldest, if not the oldest, breweries. Well, since the Prohibition. Also, The Porch is just a 15 minute ride to the ocean and a half hour's ride to the Louisiana state line. A fun place to get some small plate and enjoy some lively drink.

Puff Belly's Brewery Pizza and Grill

3179 Mallett Road Suite 22, D'Iberville, MS 39540

Salads, burgers, and impeccable cheese pizzas ... sold. Puff Belly's serves up a tasty Blueberry Milk Stout. They also have a full bar to complement the house brewed beers and guest taps. Also, it's right across from a bowling alley.
